In an exhilarating display of teamwork and strategy, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing emerged triumphant at the 6 Hours of Imola, the second event in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship. The #7 GR010 HYBRID team, consisting of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries, clinched a hard-fought victory in a race marked by variable weather and intense competition among the 19 Hypercar entrants.

The trio demonstrated exceptional skill and strategic acumen, navigating the challenging conditions to secure their first win of the season. This victory has narrowed their deficit to Porsche to just nine points in the Manufacturers’ World Championship as the series moves to its next round at Spa-Francorchamps.

Starting from sixth, Conway swiftly moved up the ranks, showcasing aggressive yet calculated driving. His teammates continued the momentum, with de Vries taking the lead following a crucial pit stop sequence during a pivotal full course yellow. The race’s dynamics shifted dramatically with a sudden downpour, prompting a swift change to wet tyres, a decision that proved crucial as the Toyota cars outpaced their rivals significantly.

Kobayashi, now the team principal and driver of car #7, managed to extend his lead substantially after the switch to wet tyres. Despite challenges in managing tyre temperatures and fuel towards the end, Kobayashi’s efforts culminated in a dramatic win, securing a 7.081-second margin over the second-placed Porsche.

Meanwhile, the #8 team, with Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa, also delivered a commendable performance, fighting their way to a fifth-place finish. Despite facing difficulties in overtaking and managing tyre strategies, their collective effort underscored a strong day for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing.

Reflecting on their victory, Kobayashi praised the exceptional performance and strategic decisions that led to their success. Conway and de Vries echoed this sentiment, highlighting the team’s flawless execution and strategic prowess throughout the race.

As the championship progresses, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing looks forward to carrying this winning momentum into the upcoming races, with their sights firmly set on championship leadership.
