After a six-year hiatus, the pulse-pounding excitement of rally racing is returning to Malelane on April 19th and 20th, 2024, marking a spectacular start to this season’s South African Rally Raid Championship. Set against the scenic backdrop of Paradise Creek Lodge, this event promises a weekend filled with high-octane action and community festivities.

The event will feature top national teams, including Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Giniel de Villiers and Henk Lategan, Century Racing, and Red-Lined Motorsport Adventure. New and returning teams such as Ford Performance and others will be competing in the newly introduced T1+ category, adding an extra layer of competition.

Local favorites, Johan and Werner Horn of Malalane Toyota, will be participating in their T1+ Hilux, alongside Eben Basson, a recent Dakar rally participant from Komatipoort. Basson, together with navigator Leander Pienaar, will be defending their 2022 title in the T1 category. The event will also see the Blignaut brothers from Witbank, known for their fearless racing style, compete in their second season.

Organizers have been diligently preparing the course, repairing damage from recent floods. The diverse terrain includes plantations, sugar cane fields, and technical rocky sections, providing challenges that will test the skills of every racer.

The community is invited to join in the festivities at the Designated Service Park (DSP) area at Paradise Creek, where admission is free. The venue will offer entertainment for all ages, including jumping castles for children, food stalls, and a beer garden with live music for adults. The racing kicks off with a 68km Qualifying race on Friday, April 19th, followed by the main race on Saturday, consisting of two 173km loops.

Don’t miss out on this adrenaline-filled weekend in Malelane, where speed, skill, and spirit will come together in a spectacular rally showcase.
